Resumen: Cherokee Ranch & Castle is a 3,100 acre historic ranch approximately 20 miles south of Denver. The ranch is in the Colorado Piedmont (Great Plains Province), located between the South Platte and the Arkansas rivers. The piedmont is bounded by the Rocky Mountains to the west and the High Plains on the east. Within the Colorado Piedmont, the ranch is located at the base of the Front Range in the urban corridor. Inherent to its past use as a working cattle ranch and its proximity to surrounding urban development, are the introduction of exotic species, several of which were documented during this 2012 inventory process. However, pockets within the ranch are less affected by urbanization and retain many aspects of the native flora. In 2012, Denver Botanic Gardens conducted the first floristic inventory of the property with support from Cherokee Ranch & Castle Foundation.
